Bwindi Impenetrable National Park

Home to about half the world's mountain gorillas — an hour with a habituated family is the trip of a lifetime.

Steep, misty rainforest on the edge of the Albertine Rift. Treks set off from four sectors each morning with a ranger, and can take anything from one to six hours depending on where the family is feeding. Once you find them you stay one hour. Numbers are small and permits sell out months ahead, which is why KOZDA books them the moment a tour is confirmed.
